THE SKINCARE EDITION: FACIAL OILS IN MY CURRENT ROTATION

It is that time of the year again when the air is getting cold and my skin is getting dry no thanks to the furnace at home. We actually held out from turning on the furnace until a week ago when the temperature dropped below zero and we were graced with a blanket of snow. All of a sudden, turning on the fireplace was not enough anymore.

Turning on the warm air also means my skin starts acting up; it gets drier, duller and little nasty spots also decide that it's time to sprout all over my face. This is also the time I find that layering hydrating toners are not enough anymore so it's time to bring out the big guns...or in my case, my beloved facial oils.

I received this facial oil in LookFantastic October box and I had zero intentions of using it until one evening I decided to go through my (ahem!) crap drawer as Mr. Platt called it to look for stuff to pass on to friends. I just finished my evening skincare routine and thought why the hell not just give this oil a try?

I am officially hooked.

First of all, it smells heavenly and even though it doesn't have the lightest texture, it surprisingly absorbs really quickly without leaving any residue or oiliness. Once absorbed, I am left with the softest, smoothest skin and I will be touching my face the rest of the night. I have been using this 3-4 times a week to seal everything in and my skin always looks fresh and very well rested the next morning. I haven't noticed any firming effect but I am definitely purchasing a full size when I'm done with this 30mL.

LookFantastic, I love you forever for introducing this oil to me.

I'll be honest, my first reaction was wtf?! when I saw the package contained two 5mL trial bottles. I always test my skincare for 4-5 weeks so I was wondering how the hell will 10mL be enough? But they weren't kidding when they told me a little goes a very long way.

All I need is one pump, a tiny bit to cover my face, neck and whatever little is left to pat on the décolletage. It has only one ingredient, pure squalane derived from olives. I swear squalane is everywhere these days, you can find it pure by itself or listed high on a serum or moisturizer ingredient list. I think it's the hottest ingredient of 2017...hell, you might even see it as a salad dressing in the near future. It's that huge!

Unlike the previous facial oil, this has a very light almost watery texture and I don't detect any scent to it. Surprisingly despite the lightweight texture, it does take a while for it to fully absorb into the skin but once it does, it leaves no oiliness or residue. I like using this in between serum and moisturizer and it gives an amazing boost of hydration to the skin. I discovered I don't need a lot of layering whenever I use this and I also can get away with a lightweight gel moisturizer.

All that said, the biggest wow factor with this serum is how it soothes my skin whenever it's irritated. If I over-exfoliate my skin (which happens way too more than I would like to admit...) then I will definitely layer at least 3 hydrating toners, skip serum, apply this and follow with a simple but very good moisturizer (read here) and my skin will calm down overnight.

And finally, I can't end this post without mentioning my two most reliable facial oils; Rodial Stemcell Super-Food Facial Oil* (reviewed here) and Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Skin Therapy Oil (mentioned here & here). There are very good reasons why both are always in my rotation, they hydrate, smooth, soften and bring all sort of goodness to my skin and I highly recommend giving both a try.

Are you a fan of facial oils? What are the ones in your current rotation and please leave me your recommendations too.
