REVIEW: Dr. Hauschka Night Serum

Today's review is on a product which had me re-evaluating my whole night time routine. I have been faithful to my evening skincare routine since I hit the big 3-0 and after that many years of sticking to what I know, it's almost impossible to stray away.

It's also extremely scary to venture into foreign territory but in order for me to give a proper trial to this latest offering from Dr. Hauschka, I had to forgo my usual Hyaluronic Acid lotion, thick evening face cream and the daily sleeping mask. Needless to say, I felt almost naked.

Did adding Dr. Hauschka Night Serum* and stripping down my evening routine to basic work?

REVIEW: Marcelle New Age Anti-Wrinkle Makeup

Marcelle has been on my list to try ever since I touched down in Canada however, the higher price range in comparison to other drugstore brands has kept me away...until the Target liquidation sale happened.

I am having a severe Target liquidation sale withdrawal as I am typing this so if this post doesn't make much sense then you'll know why.

One of the 'beauty' of being old-er (gawd, I hate that bloody word) is that anything with the word anti-wrinkle, anti-aging, anti-sagging is an instant magnet to me. The desperation of trying my very best to age gracefully has recently scaled to a new height.

Why? I've no idea. Blame it on the hormones is my go-to excuse these days.

When my eyes landed on Marcelle New Age Anti-Wrinkle Makeup, I had to pick it up despite hubby's scowl at me. Do I need another base product? No but it's anti-wrinkle, nuff' said.

My First Wish List of Some Sorts from DressLink

There's a good reason why wish list posts never made an appearance on Reflection of Sanity, I have a very long list of wants and it would take a month to list everything down. Makeup, clothes, snacks, you name it and I probably want it.

Recently I was contacted by Dresslink.com (check here) who offered to let me choose a few things from their site for review. Again, warning bells started to ring immediately however, upon researching about the site, I discovered there are many haul videos and review posts on the site.

So why am I posting this wish list? Well, it was agreed on but mainly, this will be a good comparison post when I finally receive the products. Do the pictures ring true to the products or not? We shall see and watch this space for further updates but for now, let's see what caught my eyes.

REVIEW: Annabelle Eyeshadow Quad (Chai Chai Chai)

I know I have been on a recent Canadian brand makeup binge and today's review is no other than another winner from Annabelle. Just like Essence, Annabelle is fast becoming a firm favourite of mine because I have been seriously impressed by everything that I have tried from the brand.

Drugstore eyeshadows are very tricky, some are lovely but majority are chalky, powdery with terrible pigmentation. I had no expectations whatsoever when I bought this eyeshadow quad but I am happy to report that this has to be one of the best drugstore eyeshadows that I've ever tried.

REVIEW: 11pcs Professional Multifunctional Cosmetic Makeup Tool Finishing Brushes Kit from Tmart.com

If you are a long time reader of Reflection of Sanity, you'll be well aware of my disdain of online shopping. I love purchasing handbags, watches and skincare but I'm completely anal when it comes to clothes and makeup.

So when Tmart.com contacted me asking if I would be interested in reviewing one of their products, I was feeling a little iffy about it. Not wanting to throw blind judgement, I spent hours reading up reviews about the site. Some are good, some are average and others are just downright catty. One bad review even stated bloggers sell their soul to the devil for a free product. Yea, okay....

If you read my review on eShakti.com (reviewed here), I am very skeptical about online sites that offer very cheap items. Majority are fakes and scammers however, if a site is confident enough to send me one of their products to be reviewed then there must be some merit to it.

Tmart.com kindly sent me the 11pcs Professional Multifunctional Cosmetic Makeup Tool Finishing Brushes Kit* (check here) to be reviewed and after using it for more than 2 weeks, I am ready to give my thoughts on it.

My Very Simple Version of Vietnamese Beef Pho

With flu season wreacking havoc in the House of Platt, a hot bowl of noodles soup is the best remedy. While the Western world believes in a good, hearty bowl of chicken soup, I believe in whatever my belly tells me it wanted for that day.

What can I say? My belly rules my mind.

Recently I have been cooking more Asian cuisine instead of the usual steak and pasta, maybe subconsciously I am a little home sick and this is my way of bringing Asia to me. Hubby and I both are huge fans of Vietnamese Beef Pho so this is my simplified version of it. This soup must be done overnight so the flavours have time to come together.

Let's cook!

GUEST POST: Contouring 101 by Remi Mayer

Today's post is definitely different from all my usual posts and it is also something that I've wanted to do for a long time. The idea of having a 'Guest Post' appearing on Reflection of Sanity has been lingering in my mind for the past couple of months. However, I didn't know where to start or who to ask and I know my blog is very small...so who would even be remotely interested to spend their time to write here. So you can imagine my surprise and how happy I was when Remi reached out to me asking if I minded having her write a post for me. She's a student who loves beauty, fashion and writing however, she's doesn't have the time to run a full time blog. Instead, she offers to write guest post for blogs which she follows and love. Enjoy.....

Brace yourselves girls: Red carpet’s best kept beauty secret is finally available to all of us common women. Have you tried mastering the art of contouring, or do you still think of this idea as unreachable? If you haven’t already tested this flaw concealing and beauty accentuating technique, there is no better time than right now. There will be some beginner’s mistakes, long trials, and it will take some time. But fear not, ladies, once you learn the whys and the hows, it will be a picnic.

Fake it 'til you make it

I believe that every girl adores regular healthy skin look. But, let’s face it, we are not all blessed with flawless skin and Keira Knightley cheekbones, so we ordinary girls have to use a few tricks here and there. The question is, how to contour your face to achieve a natural look? The trick is that no one should know it is there in the first place. I myself know a few guys that would call us girls cheaters because of that, and if you hear a comment like that, just answer with a saying from THE MAN, Albert Einstein who explained to us how nature conceals her secrets, not because she’s a trickster, but because she’s sublime.

Steps to achieve natural look:
Step1: Light should be in the center and shadow on the edges: The middle of your face—forehead, bridge of the nose, cheekbones and the area under your eyes —should be brighter, for a more angular look. Use a darker concealer to create false shadows beneath the cheekbones, along your hairline, and along the sides of your nose.
