Smooth, Glowing Skin with BVspa Salt and Sugar Scrubs

Let's start today's post with a little education. Yes, I know it's Monday and for the most part, our brains and bodies are still in weekend mode but may I insist on a little chit chat on microbeads. Before most of you assume that I am still drunk from last night's three beers and two or maybe four glasses of wine which I might still be but that's not up for discussion, I'm here to discuss the hazardous effects of microbeads to our environment.

Over the years, there are a huge number of beauty products that have replaced biodegradable exfoliants such as ground shells with microbeads. These microbeads are mainly made of polyethylene (PE) but can be also be made of polypropylene (PP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and nylon. (source)

Microbeads don't dissolve which means they wash down our sewer into the rivers, canals and oceans and remain there. According to a study in Environmental Science & Technology, 8 billion microbeads pollute U.S. aquatic habitats daily, which rounds up to an approximate of 2.9 trillion per year.

So what do all those mind blowing facts have to do with todays post?

BVspa by Bon Vital' created a range of salt and sugar scrubs which are kind towards the environment and I am here to...not even going to lie, highly rave about these scrubs. BVspa scrubs are formulated with 100% natural ingredients including Dead Sea salt, olive oil, jojoba oil and safflower seed oil. They are also free from paraben, sulfate and phthalate.

Can it get any better?

I was kindly sent Pomegranate & Acai Berry Salt Scrub* and Lavender & Rosemary Sugar Scrub* and have been putting them to the test over the past few weeks. A thing to note is each scent was chosen for their aroma-therapeutic nature.

Initially I was a little apprehensive whether these were going to make any difference to my skin and I was also worried that the sugar and salt would melt away before I could give a good massage to my skin. So I took a tiny bit of the sugar scrub and tested it on my hands and the texture was everything that I look for in a good scrub.

Lavender & Rosemary Sugar Scrub* (soothe & relax) has a gritty, rough texture which is just the way I like it. This is a hard worker, the one that will really slough away all the dirt, grime and the top and bottom layers of your skin (I jest!). Jokes aside, I love that the sugar is rougher and it doesn't melt of upon contact unlike  a couple of other sugar scrubs that I have tried. That said, I really don't recommend using this more than twice a week or using it on areas where your skin is thinner and more sensitive as you might scrub it raw. I personally have cowhide as skin so I love me some rough scrub.

Pomegranate & Acai Berry Salt Scrub* (rejuvenate) is the gentle, soft spoken and well mannered sister of the sugar scrub. That doesn't mean it's any less effective, it's as good as Lavender & Rosemary Sugar Scrub* but a much gentler version. The salt is finer in texture but thankfully it still allows me enough time to work it into the skin. I do have to work with it quicker in comparison to the sugar scrub so I usually use it on weekdays when I take quicker showers. Unlike the sugar scrub, I have no problems using this almost everyday as it's so gentle.

It is not recommended to use these scrubs on the face due to the grittiness and I agree with it. The skin on our face is thinner and more sensitive than our body so these scrubs are too rough for it.

I seriously enjoyed using having both scrubs in my rotation and it's a refreshing change from using my usual coffee scrubs. My skin is noticeably softer and smoother after every usage and bonus? These don't contribute to water pollution and they are very reasonably priced at CAD$11.99/6.5oz.

BVspa products also includes body butters and body lotions and are available for purchase at Shopper's Drug Mart locations.

Are you a fan of salt and sugar scrubs? What are your favourite brands?

*I received these products for free but my thoughts and opinions are 100% unbiased, honest and my own. There is no place for any sort of BS here.
