BRAND SPOTLIGHT: Jarvis Cosmetics

Today's brand introduction is a little different from the usual programming. It's something that I am a little on the fence about and have been a little hesitant about writing this review however, as always, I want to be fair and I will let you know my thoughts as always.

Jarvis Cosmetics is the latest beauty brand that has come into the market. It recently launched on 7th July and so far I've seen only two reviews on the brand but when I dig deeper and by dig deeper, I meant I googled...it seems like there has been mentions about this brand as far back as 2014. That said, the old existing discussion threads on this brand look like spam threads, as if someone was trying to create a buzz on the brand online however failed because it came across as spamming instead.

So why did I agree to test this brand despite what I found? Well, my curiosity got the better of me. Jarvis Cosmetics regardless spam or not, is supposedly different from all the other beauty products in the market currently. What makes them different, at least to me is they use herbal water instead of just water in creating their skincare. When we read skincare ingredient lists, the first listed ingredient is usually aqua/water while Jarvis Cosmetics uses water that has been steeped with different types of Korean herbs.

Let's get to one of the biggest reasons that triggered my hesitance; the packaging. I received a beautiful box and inside are three products housed in a beautiful bamboo packaging. That's where the good ends.

There were no ingredient list, not much are printed on all three products except directions to use it day and night. I was told the reason for this is they will be changing the packaging hence the lack of information so I will not be talking about the packaging in my review below.

In the email correspondence, I received a PDF file attached to it with list of ingredients however, it was very general and it doesn't look professional at all. I had to reach out and ask for the ingredient list for both the serum and the cream because they both can't have the same ingredients, it just doesn't make sense and I was sent another PDF file which you see below:

B is the list of ingredients for the serum and for the cream is A+B, meaning you get all the goodness of the serum plus more in the cream. I wanted to reach out to a very dear blogging friend to ask her opinions on the list of ingredients but I know she has a lot going on so I decided to turn to the next best option, Google. What I found out is everything looks legit but I have this nagging feeling that something is not quite right. Maybe it's the lack of professionalism that triggered my suspicion, I don't want to be harsh as they are very new but I expected more from a start up and new company who is trying to break into the market.

But let's talk about the real reason for this review, do these products actually work? Did they trigger any reaction, breakouts, etc? Well, let's get to it.

The 50mL serum retails for $59.99 and the 50mg cream retails for $54.99, if you decide that you want to try both then I highly suggest getting the bundle which retails for $99.99 and it comes with the additional 30mL serum.

First and foremost, I'm not sure how many people are able to withstand the scent of these products. Jarvis Cosmetics are not kidding when they say they are using water that has been steeped with herbs because the scent feels like you're applying a Chinese herb store onto your face. The cream is the worst culprit and the scent lingers for a long time. Little tyke actually ran away from me when I asked for a kiss and hubby dearest...well...he asked 'what the f*ck you have on your face?!'.

Yea, it's prettyyyyy bad.

The serum is a milky white watery texture and the cream is very thick, almost balm like. While the serum absorbs within seconds, I need to take my time and massage the cream into my skin. And my face will look shiny for the next 5 minutes so I don't recommend using this cream for day time.

Now to the most important part, did it work?

This is surprisingly one of the better skincare brands that I have ever tested. This duo seems to do an excellent job at healing my skin. I have been suffering a few spots on my face no thanks to the change of weather and hormones (that damn time of the month....) and surprisingly my skin calmed down a lot when I started using both serum and cream. I have a very bad habit of popping my spots whenever I get one; it's like a rare Pokemon so as soon as I see it, I need to catch it or in this case, pick at the spot. And this duo did a great job at healing my skin whenever I went batshit crazy picking at it.

I also notice how soft, smooth and fresh my skin looks the next morning whenever I use the cream. It feels like it heals and nourishes my skin overnight and I wake up to a better, healthier and glowing skin.

That all said, I couldn't help but wonder why I have such excellent results with the products. Looking at the list of ingredients, they are pretty normal and commonly found in many skincare products so the only thing that is different, is the herb water. I know benefits of drinking water steeped with herbs, my dad made me drink it a lot when I was younger but is it equally effective when applied topically and used in skincare?

Despite my reservations over Jarvis Cosmetics, I can't deny that their products are excellent. I also like that they chose not to include fragrance in the products, yes they smell like a herb store but I rather have it all natural instead of having unnecessary perfume.

Do I recommend the products? Yes, because I saw and felt the differences that they made to my skin but on the other hand, I have lots of questions and reservations. To end this post, I'll hand it over to you, what are your thoughts on Jarvis Cosmetics? Please share your thoughts, opinions, questions in the comment below, I would love to read it!
