THE SKINCARE EDITION: ROBIN MCGRAW REVELATION - BE THE BRIGHTEST ONE IN THE ROOM

Today I'll be sharing a very new brand to me and one that I have never read or heard before the PR email landed in my inbox. If the name Robin McGraw sounds familiar to you then rest assured there is a good reason why because she's the spouse of the famous Dr. Phil.

This luxury skincare brand is now finally available for purchase in Canada and I was kindly sent Be The Brightest One In The Room (I kid you not, that's really the name...), a 3-step brightening system to be used in the evening. The system consists of TWINKLE TWINKLE, YOU'RE A STAR!* a 50mL physical facial exfoliator, LET THERE BE BRIGHT!* a 30mL brightening facial serum and finally, STARLIGHT, FACE BRIGHT* a 30mL brightening night cream.

I have been using all three products for more than a month and let's see how I got along with them.

TWINKLE TWINKLE, YOU'RE A STAR! Triple Action Brightening Polish, 1.7 fl. oz/50 mL

Water/Aqua/Eau, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Bentonite, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit, Pumice, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Glycerin, Jojoba Esters, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax/Cera Carnauba/Cire de carnauba, Glyceryl Stearate, PPG-2 Hydroxyethyl Coco/Isostearamide, PEG-100 Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Beeswax/Cera Alba/Cire d’abeille, Cetyl Palmitate, C12-13 Alkyl Lactate, Saccharomyces/Xylinum/Black Tea Ferment, Butylene Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Lactic Acid, Papain, Bromelain, Salicylic Acid, Butylene Glycol, Aminomethyl Propanol, Xanthan Gum, Pentylene Glycol, Disodium EDTA, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Lens Esculenta (Lentil) Seed Extract, Diglucosyl Gallic Acid, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, Decylene Glycol, Sodium Hydroxide, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Chlorphenesin, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Benzoic Acid, Sorbic Acid.

It has Witch Hazel, Vitamin CLactic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Clay and many more good ingredients which by the look, I should fall deeply, madly in love with this scrub but I don't. On the contrary, I really dislike this scrub and to be perfectly honest, I have only used it 3 times and couldn't bear to use it again.

Don't get me wrong, my skin really glows whenever I use this scrub followed by the serum and cream but my skin also feels raw every time I used it. I found the grains to be too rough and I am not exaggerating when I say it literally felt like it was scratching my skin so for that reason alone, this was a major flop for me.

Water/Aqua/Eau, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Porphyridium Polysaccharide, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Pentylene Glycol, Sodium Ascorbyl Glucoside, Raspberryketone Glucoside, Dimethicone, Cetearyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, C14-22 Alcohols, C12-20 Alkyl Glucoside, Cetyl Esters, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Xanthan Gum, Steareth-10, Steareth-20, Polysilicone-11, Aminobutyric Acid, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA, Silica, Aminomethyl Propanol, Lecithin, Diglucosyl Gallic Acid, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract, Maltodextrin, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Diacetyl Boldine, Lepidium Sativum Sprout Extract, Plankton Extract, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance (Parfum), Mica, Barium Sulfate (CI 77120), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).

Both serum and night cream have a triple brightening complex which is a blend of Lumiskin, Brightenyl and Vitamin C or so it says on the site. I was not sure what Lumiskin was other than it sounded like a fancy name for something ordinary. But to my surprise it's actually by the company Sederma and is a solution of diacetyl-boldine and caprylic/capric triglycerides and used for its skin lightening properties. Brightenyl on the other hand is claimed to be 4 times more potent than vitamin C and 60 times more efficient than kojic acid. There are a few articles that I came across but the science is too much for my brain to bear but just type the two names and you'll have a sea of information to read through. This serum also has Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate which is a retinoic acid ester. It is directly related to retinoic acid, delivers similar results but without the irritation or so to speak.

This serum is very lightweight and absorbs into the skin almost instantly without any tackiness or residue. There is a scent to it but nothing artificial and I would describe it more as clinical.

I really enjoy using this serum and I must say that my skin is noticeably softer, plumper and brighter when combined with the night cream. I also highly suggest using a high SPF sunscreen when using this serum or whatever results you are achieving with it is just useless.

STARLIGHT, FACE BRIGHT Triple Action Brightening Night Cream, 1fl. oz/30 mL

Water/Aqua/Eau, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, Glycerin, Jojoba Esters, Cetyl Esters, Decyl Cocoate, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Dimethicone, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Glyceryl Caprylate, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Squalane, Sodium Polyacrylate, Sodium Lauroyl Lactylate, Ophiopogon Japonicus Root Extract, Ubiquinone, Tocopherol, Xanthan Gum, Lens Esculenta (Lentil) Seed Extract, Galactoarabinan, Citric Acid, Allantoin, Silica, Diglucosyl Gallic Acid, Polysorbate 60, Disodium EDTA, Aminomethyl Propanol, Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP, Phytosphingosine, Cholesterol, Hydroxypropyl Cyclodextrin, Carbomer, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Caprylyl Glycol, Diacetyl Boldine, Acetyl Tetrapeptide-2, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, Ceramide EOP, Phenoxyethanol, Mica.

This night cream has the same brightening blend as the serum and as I stated earlier, it really delivers amazing brightening and plumping results when used in conjunction with the serum. It also has ceramides and peptides but unfortunately they are listed way down the ingredient list so the amount present are probably too little to deliver any results.

On its own, this is a rich night cream that delivers amazing hydration without leaving any tackiness or heaviness on the skin. The texture when scooped from the jar looks scarily thick but once warmed in between my palms, it takes mere seconds for it to fully absorb into the skin. I never felt the need to add facial oils to or on top of it and I actually think it's suitable even for the oiliest skin.

I had a great time testing this range and for the first time in a very long time, I actually tested these products without looking at the ingredient list. Sometimes it's good to do blind testing, notice the results and then find out what makes the product good.

Will I repurchasing the products? It is a no brainer that I will never ever repurchase the exfoliator but that aside, I am also on the fence about repurchasing both serum and night cream. I personally feel they are amazing when used together but on their own, they are good but nothing to write home about.

Maybe in the future I will revisit this brand but for now, I will definitely finish products but I don't see myself repurchasing these anytime soon.

Be The Brightest One In The Room is available for purchase and currently on sale for $115.00 (normal price $144.00) on www.robinmcgrawrevelation.com
