The Best Beauty Discoveries of 2016

I have been beauty blogging for almost 3 years now and I just noticed that this is the first time I am doing a compilation of my best beauty discoveries of the year. As I was trying to narrow down the products to create this post, it occurred to me why I never did one of they post before...

It's hard, like bloody fucking hard to narrow down the products so this post will not be 10 pages long and it doesn't help that I am chatty AF. (as Whitney likes to say it 😉)

So I'm not going to write a long intro because I have a strong feeling this post will be unbearably long. I won't be going too in-depth about each product because I'm trying to keep this post as short as possible but if you have any questions and want to know more then please let me know in the comment section.

SKINCARE
skincare, beauty
I completely forgotten to take a picture of the Vichy hand cream! 😓

I don't think it comes as any surprise that REN EverClam Global Protection Day Cream (reviewed here) is listed here. I am currently on my third 30mL tube which means I've gone through one full size of the moisturizer. It will be a forever repurchase just like my dearest Vichy Hand & Nail Cream* (reviewed here). I swear by this and I recommend it to all my customers.

I was head over heels in love with my AmorePacific Moisture Bound eye cream* (reviewed here) until I tried Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Eye Concentrate*. I have never tried an eye cream that brightens, freshens and smoothes out my eye areas so well, I just wish the damn price is cheaper. Acure The Magical Wunderfluff(reviewed here) is still my one true love when it comes to overnight masks. I wake up to soft, fresh, radiant, healthy and plump skin the next morning every time I use it.

Guys, I have to eat my words about never splurging on a cleanser because I fell deeply in love with GlamGlow ThristyCleanse Hydrating Cleanser. There have been a few friends who have mentioned that this dried out their skin even more but thankfully, it does the opposite for my skin. How much do I love it? I have bought another as backup.

Last but not least, my favourite combo from The Ordinary; Advanced Retinoid 2% and Niacimanide 10% + Zinc 1%. I use this combination once to twice a week and they are the biggest contributors to why my skin is looking so much healthier.

MAKEUP

This had me stumped for weeks because it was almost impossible to narrow down the list. At the end of the day I asked myself what I would repurchase in a heartbeat if I break it or run out of it and ended up with a smaller list.

Marc Jacobs Air Blush in Lines & Last Night. Pricey? Holy fuck yes but this might be my favourite blusher ever. It looks so natural, almost airbrush on the skin and I only notice fading after 9-10 hours. I plan to pick up a couple more from the range. Next is Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara which I think by far is the best mascara I have ever used. It gives major volume, length, holds a good curl and the wand fans out my lashes beautifully.

Algenist REVEAL Concentrated Luminizing Drops in shade Rosé. A very lovely blogger friend, Dom (say hello here) sent me this because she knew I was dying to try it and I have not stopped using it since. I love how luminous without being OTT it made my skin look, lasts all day without fading and I think I love it more than my Becca Shimmering Perfector. I also have to include e.l.f Illuminating Palette in this list because the amazing quality took me by surprise. The palette comes with 4 large pans buttery soft, finely milled powder highlighters which last all day on my dry skin for only C$7.99. And once again, thank you so much, Dom!

This category would not be complete without my beloved Make up For Ever Water Blend Foundation* (reviewed here) and Make Up For Ever Pro Light Fusion Highlighter in shade Golden Pink* (reviewed here). Both currently hold holy grail status and I don't see this changing anytime soon.

And for the final two products that actually surprised even myself, Rodial Banana Powderand Rodial Contouring Powder* (reviewed here). If you recall, I didn't give the banana powder the most 'glowing' review but I have been reaching for it every day and when used with Maybelline FitMe concealer, I noticed that it really did brighten up my face. The same goes for the contouring powder and I have been using non stop ever since! As soon as I imagine losing either one, my heart hurts and I just knew that both needed to be on this list.

MAKEUP BRUSHES
beauty, makeup

Yes, 2016 has been the year where I have been investing in makeup brushes and I have 4 that belong in this category.

Wayne Goss Fan Brush and the limited edition The Air-Brush. I have been using the fan brush for all my powder highlighters application and it gives the softest finish on my skin. The Air-Brush is appropriately named as that is exactly what it does; seamless, airbrushed finish on the skin with any powder products. Both brushes are the softest that I have in my collection and I will cry a million tears if something happens to either one.

Make Up For Ever 144 Professional Brush* is my holy grail brush for liquid illuminators. It looks like nothing special but once used to apply liquid products (concealers, highlighters), it blends beautifully and the product looks like its melted into the skin. I don't understand why no one talks about this brush because this is a must have for every beauty lover.

Finally, Sigma B12 - Bent Liner Brush* (reviewed here). I have been wearing only gel eyeliners because of this brush. If you see me rocking the perfect sharp winged eyeliners on InstaStories then all credit goes to this little gem.

I am so sorry for this extremely long post but thank you for bearing with me. Initially I wanted to include the worst beauty discoveries in this post but that would only make it even more ridiculously long. I might be featuring all the worst beauty discoveries through InstaStories so make sure to follow me on Instagram (here)!

Are you familiar with any of these products? What are your best beauty discoveries of 2016?

*Products marked with * were received for free but my thoughts and opinions are 100% unbiased, honest and my own. There is no place for any sort of BS here.

Food for thought: I experienced my first shoplifter incident recently however it was not the thought of someone stealing makeup that bothered me. She left her two kids age 12 and 4 in the car while she went into the store to 'treat' herself to some makeup. We had to call her eldest child to let him know that his mum was stopped for shoplifting. How any parent could do that to their child is beyond me....😕
