Beauty Box REVIEW: ipsy January 'Fresh Start' Bag

It's that time of the month again...it's ipsy time! Read that with a game show host voice, mine just sound a little more squeakier. Okay, let's put that awkwardness aside and get down to business.

While I have been disappointed with my ipsy November 'Girl Meets Glitter' bag (reviewed here), I mean glitter and me will never be best friends, ever...the December bag impressed me and I am glad to say, January bag was no different. Today you'll be talking to a happy Shireen, who makes an appearance every once in a while, like a blue moon.

ipsy January 'Fresh Start' Bag

Real Technique Fine Liner Brush
Real Techniques
fine liner brush (full size) $6.00
My thoughts:
Best item in the bag! I have long wanted a Real Technique brush so I was over the moon when I saw this. This brush lived up to every hype you ever heard/read/watched. Best eye liner brush I've ever used. If you love gel eye liners then you need this brush, period. Do people still end their sentence with 'period' or am I stuck in the 90's?

Pacifica
Natural Mineral Coconut Eye Shadow (sample size) $3.50 - $4.60

Ingredient list from ipsy:
mica, caprylic/capric triglyceride, zinc stearate, ethylhexyl stearate (plant), cocos nucifera (coconut oil), carthamus tinctorius (safflower) seed oil, caprylyl glycol, ethylhexylglycerin. may contain: iron oxides (ci 77499, ci 77491, ci 77492), titanium dioxide (ci 77891), ultramarine violet (ci 77007)

My thoughts:
The texture of this eyeshadow is buttery smooth and it blends easily. It lasted the whole day on my lids without any fading or creasing and I didn't use any primer with it. However, I can only use this shade on the inner corner of my eyes. I have warm medium skin tone so I can't use a shimmery whitish shade all over my lids. The 80's would have sued me for stealing their look.

Nourish Organic
Renewing Eye Cream (full size 0.5oz/15mL) $19.99
Ingredient list from ipsy:
organic aloe barbadensis leaf (aloe vera) juice, organic butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, autolyzed yeast, organic helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, organic glycerin, organic oryza sativa (rice) bran extract, xanthan gum, organic argania spinosa (argan) oil, organic soy lecithin, organic theobroma grandiflorum (cupuacu) butter, organic rosa canina (rosehip) seed oil, organic rosa damascena (rose) flower distillate, organic persea gratissima (avocado) oil, organic zea mays (corn) starch, organic hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) distillate, tocopherol (vitamin e), ascorbic acid (vitamin c)

My thoughts:
I received January ipsy bag on the 14th and have been using this every night since then. While I know the reviews on this eye cream are less than impressive, I personally feel that it did deliver on most of its claims. Bear in mind this eye cream doesn't promise to banish wrinkles, fine line, bla bla bla however, it does promise to provide rich hydration. My eye areas did appear to be softer, smoother and hydrated every morning when I wake up so this little tube get a thumb up from me.
Texture wise, this eye cream is very thick and it takes some time to absorb. I don't recommend to use it under makeup as I noticed my concealer moved a little.

J. Cat Beauty
FANTABULOUS Gel Eye Liner (full size 0.12oz) $5.99
Ingredient list from ipsy:
trimethylated silica, isoparaffin solvent, paraffin wax, dimethyl silicone oil, cyclopentasiloxane, 2-ethylhexyl palmitate, quaternium-90 bentonite, propylene carbonate, mica, lecithin, poly (fatty acid), isopropyl myristate, polyglycerol-3 polyricinoleate, phenoxyethanol, methyl paraben, ethyl paraben, may contain (+/-) :iron oxides black, ultramarine blue, manganese violet

My thoughts:
I received the shade Blue Black and I am completely obsessed with this shade. I don't own anything in this shade so it's a refreshing colour to use. However, this is not the best gel eye liner I have. The application is a little patchy and if I try to draw over the liner, it'll start to crumble and peel off. I also have to touch up once I use my eyelash curler. Some of the liner will stick to the curler hence a touch up is necessary. Hands down Maybelline gel eye liner is much better.

Manna Kadar Cosmetics
Sheer Glo (sample size 0.27oz) $7.83

Swatch
Ingredient list from ipsy:
aqua (water), cyclopentasiloxane, cyclohexasiloxane, propylene glycol, dimethicone, stearic acid, triethanolamine, magnesium aluminum silicate, isostearic acid, gylceryl stearate, oleth-20, steareth- 2, diazolidinyl urea, methylparaben, cellulose gum, propylparaben, xanthan gum, tocopheryl acetate, trisodium, edta, parfum may contain: mica, iron oxides, titanium dioxide

My thoughts:
Take a close look at the swatch picture above, the left side of the product is how Sheer Glow looks when it's blended into the skin. Can't see it? Well guess what? Neither can I.
Apparently they weren't kidding when they decided to name this product Sheer Glow, it's so sheer to the point you can't see it. No idea about the glow though. Next please....

My thoughts:
What can I say? It's a plastic blue and white bag. It's not the best quality but it's also the best bag that I received. Shocking, I know.

I am really pleased with ipsy January bag. Most of the products received a thumb up from me with the exception of one. I am convinced the reason why I am happy with both December and January bags has something to do with my beauty profile. I updated my beauty profile after the disappointing November bag and ever since, the products have been pretty much spot on.

Well done, ipsy! Now I am really looking forward to my February bag!
