Valentine's Day Makeup When You're Staying In

It's that time of the year again, when lovers gaze lovingly into each other's eyes while whispering sweet nothings and everything into each other's ear. Frankly that scenario is usually far from the truth because the truth is you'll be spending a fecking miserable amount of money on flowers which will die within 3 days because most were already fully bloomed or half arse dead and shall I even remind you about the so-called romantic dining experience? All restaurants jack up their prices ridiculously high and cram as many tables as they can on Valentine's Day. Hell bells, you could lean over and share a piece of conversation or food with the next table.

Mr. Platt and I stopped celebrating Valentine's Day a few years ago and personally we don't miss it at all. We don't miss the stress of finding the right present and the insane amount of money spent on an over-commercialized day. I will cook a nice dinner and we'll enjoy the day as a family and with some luck, Little Tyke will not try to talk above us.

Yes, he's now talking and he's chattier than his mum.

So today's post is a makeup look for us ladies who are staying in and want to look good for ourselves or for hubby/fiancé/boyfriend/girlfriend or even for that pussy in the corner of the room but don't want to spend a crazy amount of time and effort.

For base I have been reaching for bareMineral Complexion Rescue non stop. I bought it because Leanne (say hello here) raves about it and she's right, it's bloody brilliant. I don't find myself needing any primer with it as it's beautiful on its own and doesn't sink into my pores. As for concealer, I applied my old trusty Maybelline Instant Age Rewind which has always and will forever be in my makeup rotation.

Now let's take a moment and talk about these Real Technique Miracle Complexion sponges*. I was kindly sent the cult favourite and its mini version and I am literally obsessed. I have not been using any of my foundation brushes ever since receiving both and I use them every time I apply my makeup. These sponges are amazing! I know I'm the odd one out as I freaking hate the Beauty Blender but these, I am in love. I find these sponges give the most natural, sheer and soft focus finish to my skin whereas the Beauty Blender makes my foundation look cakey.

Okay back to makeup, Vichy Tient Ideal Highlighter* (reviewed here) has been my go to liquid highlighter and as always I set the centre of my face with my holy grail Rouge Bunny Rouge Diaphanous Powder* (reviewed here). In my current rotation is my much beloved but long forgotten Dr. Hauschka Bronzing Powder* (reviewed here) and gosh, why did I stop using it? It gives the most natural, soft bronze to the skin all the while making my skin look radiant and healthy. To finish my base, I applied Rouge Bunny Rouge blusher* for some colour and a touch of Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder.

On to the eyes, it's almost bare except a light sweep of Dr. Hauschka Bronzing Powder* on the crease and the lower lash line. I finished off the eye with a little tight-lining with Make Up For Ever eye liner* (reviewed here) and applied multiple coats of Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume mascara. My eyebrow routine remained the same with a couple coats of Essence Make Me Brow and filled in with Rouge Bunny Rouge Brow Liner* (reviewed here).

And the final touch to complete the look, a very quick swipe of Tom Ford Lips and Boys in shade Jared, a bright medium fuchsia which brightens up my face.

I know this look is plain and simple but it's meant to be something that I can put together within 15-20 minutes and look like I made the extra effort for a special day.

On another note, who am I kidding? This is pretty much my go-to look on most days because it makes me look alive instead of dead.

*Product marked with * was received for free but my thoughts and opinions are 100% unbiased, honest and my own. There is no place for any sort of BS here.

Will you be celebrating Valentine's Day? What are your Valentine's Day traditions?

ps: There will be no post on Monday as it's a public holiday so I'll see you guys next Friday! Have a brilliant weekend and a very lovely Valentine's Day!
