THE HAIR EDITION: WHAT'S NEW IN MY ROTATION

A lot has changed since my days of everyday hair washing (yes, every-single-day), a habit that I never ever thought I could break. A habit that didn't cause me any problems until I migrated to Canada; red, itchy, inflamed hairline which sometimes affected my forehead too.

My doctor insisted that I had rosacea (how the hell can it be rosacea when I have zero redness or inflammation anywhere else on my face?!), prescribed me a very expensive gel that did shit-all to which led me to call him multiple not-so-pleasant names in my mid. Yes, more than a year down the road I am still very bitter about it...I want my C$50.00 back....that's like half of a Tom Ford eyeshadow quad.

Roughly a year ago I made the decision to go SLS free with my haircare and lo and behold, it was the best decision that I have ever made for my hair and my sanity. The irritation and inflammation stopped occurring, my scalp and hair are less oily and the best part, my hair doesn't trap the smell of food anymore (main reason why I used to wash my hair everyday, I cook a lot and hated going to bed with my hair smelling like dinner).

Today I'm sharing a few products that recently made their way into my routine, not all are wonderful but more on that later. Hope you enjoy the post!

NOUGHTY HAIRCARE - CARE TAKER SHAMPOO* & CONDITIONER* (C$11.99 each)
SLS free, cruelty free, haircare, beauty, natural,

I was very kindly sent this range from Noughty Haircare at the end December and if you remember my previous review (read here), I do like the products however the conditioners were not suitable for my hair type.

The Care Taker range is targeted for dandruff-prone, dry and sensitive scalp and I am neither. The shampoo contains oatmeal extract, wheat amino acid and bisabolol which is a known anti-irritant to help soothe and calm the scalp. I really enjoy the shampoo albeit it annoys me that I have to use twice the amount to get the smallest lather.

The conditioner on the other hand contains coconut oil and shea butter high on the ingredient list and it is way too heavy for my hair. If I thought both conditioners from the previous range were heavy for my hair, this has both beat! The texture is very thick, very dense and the only way I could use it was by reverse hair washing.

Unfortunately the only one I would repurchase is the shampoo as the conditioner was a complete flop for me.

SLS free, cruelty free, haircare, beauty, natural,

I first heard about this hair mask through Kathleen Light and she swears by it. I didn't pay any attention to it as our hair is different; mine is untouched while hers is colour treated but when this tube came in my BoxyCharm, I was quick to give it a try!

Briogeo products are free from parabens, sulfates, phthalates and this hair mask is also free from silicones, DEA and artificial dyes. It's also a cruelty-free brand and it's ingredients are coconut, vegetable or plant derived. This mask contains rosehip oil, algae extract, almond oil, vitamins, biotin, aloe extract and more goodness and I can feel the ingredient list working on my hair every use.

Unlike the other hair masks that I have tried, the texture is light, almost like a normal conditioner and the best part, the scent is lovely without being suffocatingly sweet. My hair feels fresh, strong and very healthy and it never ever weighs my hair down. This might just be my hold grail hair mask!

SLS free, cruelty free, haircare, beauty, natural,

If you read my previous review (read here), I wasn't impressed with this serum at all. I find it to be too oily and it seems to make my scalp itch too.

Well, what do you know? I changed my mind big time! The difference? I use only 3 drops each time; only on the centre and then each side of my scalp and massage. I have noticed a huge difference in my hair density, my scalp doesn't itch and what amazed me the most is I don't lose as much hair anymore. I used to get a lot of hair loss whenever I washed my hair but these days I lose half of the usual amount! I'm glad I decided to give this another go and now I can't be without it.

My haircare routine is very minimal thanks to my natural, untouched hair but some of these products definitely took my hair strength and health to a whole new level.

Are you familiar with any of these brands and products? What are your holy grail hair products?

*Products marked with * were received for free but my thoughts and opinions are 100% unbiased, honest and my own. There is no place for any sort of BS here.
